Cyrus Doctor | Founder & CEO

Cyrus is a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon with a keen interest in medical device innovation. After graduating from Imperial College School of Business in 2004 with a degree in Management and Medical Sciences and from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2007, Cyrus went on to become a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (England) in 2011.

He has an interest in surgical research and has several peer review publications in different areas of surgery.

In August 2014, he took a sabbatical from clinical medicine and was sponsored by Boston Scientific to partake in the Bioinnovate fellowship. Shortly after returning to trauma and orthoapedic surgery he identified a clinical need and conceived the concept for a device which later won the Cleveland Clinic Innovators award and has now become the project that launched Starling Surgical.

Claire O’Sullivan | Principal Engineer

Claire graduated from the University of Limerick with an honour’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2006. With over 10 years’ experience in the medical device industry, she has gained experience working in medical device multinationals, such as Teleflex Medical, Depuy, Stryker, and Boston Scientific. She has an interest in Medtech entrepreneurship, having started her career at Stokes Bio and most recently working for Veryan Medical in Galway. Within these companies she has worked on products consisting of microfluidic platforms, orthopaedic implants, cardiovascular drug-eluting stents, peripheral arterial self-expanding stents and catheters. Claire has held various positions across the product lifecycle and has gained experience in development, manufacture, commercialisation and distribution of medical devices. Claire is also a former fellow of BioInnovate having completed the Fellowship program at National University of Ireland, Galway in 2019.

Travis Davis | Previous CTO

Travis began his professional career as a wildland firefighter team lead in the Rocky Mountains of Montana. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of experience at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center as an award-winning Liquid Propulsion Design and Test Engineer. He specialized in utilizing metal, polymer and resin additive manufacturing while at NASA and holds NASA patents in that field. After being chosen as a George J. Mitchell Scholar, he earned a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Trinity College Dublin, with a focus on Medical Device Design and earned his Private Pilot license during his time at NASA.
